Job Summary:

Santa Lucia School seeks an enthusiastic Grades 6-8 teacher to lead a multi-age classroom using a nature-based, project-driven approach. This role involves delivering engaging, hands-on literacy, math, science, and social studies lessons while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Candidates with experience in project-based learning, outdoor education, and the Science of Reading are preferred. Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential (preferred)

  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Live Scan clearance with the CA Department of Justice.

  • CPR certification.

  • A current tuberculosis clearance.

  • Ability to create and facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including outdoor fieldwork and service learning project

Position Overview:
Santa Lucia School is seeking a passionate, creative, and flexible  teacher to join our close-knit community of educators. Founded in 1985, Santa Lucia School is dedicated to providing a nature-based, project-driven educational experience for K-8 students. Our unique program integrates hands-on learning, service projects, and outdoor education. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to student-centered learning, environmental education, and social-emotional development.

This role involves teaching a small class of multi-age students in Grade 6-8. The teacher will collaborate with a dynamic team of educators to create engaging units of study and lessons integrating literacy, math, science, and social studies through place-based and project-based learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan & Implement Instruction:
    • Develop and deliver differentiated lessons in literacy, math, science, and social studies that are engaging and tied to students’ interests.

    • Incorporate experiential and place-based learning opportunities, including outdoor education, nature journaling, and fieldwork.

    • Use EL Education resources to create engaging, theme-based units.

    • Align instruction with EL Education, RightStart Math, and Lexia resources.

  • Student Engagement & Support:
    • Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

    • Implement SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) strategies to support students’ emotional well-being.

    • Provide targeted reading intervention, including phonics, word study, and comprehension strategies.

    • Support students with learning differences, such as giftedness, dyslexia, ADHD, and autism, using a strengths-based approach.

  • Community Engagement:
    • Lead and participate in student clubs and service learning projects

    • Help organize and participate in school events, including performances, community festivals, and fund-raisers

    • Build strong relationships with students, families, and community partners.

  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
    • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction.

    • Maintain accurate records of student performance and provide regular feedback to students and families.

    • Conduct Lexia and diagnostic assessments to inform instruction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (preferred)

  • Experience teaching grades k-8, preferably in a multi-age classroom setting.

  • Experience with project-based, nature-based, or outdoor learning is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and learning.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with the Science of Reading.

  • Experience working with students with learning differences, including giftedness, dyslexia, and ADHD.

  • Knowledge of permaculture, sustainability practices, or environmental education.

  • Ability to create and facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including outdoor fieldwork and service learning projects.

Salary & Benefits:

Santa Lucia School offers a salary based on experience and qualifications. This position provides the unique perk of a four-day workweek with students (Monday through Thursday), with Fridays dedicated to planning, collaboration, and professional development. Staff meets one Friday a month on campus. The school year begins the day after Labor Day and ends early to mid-June.

      Job Summary

      Santa Lucia School seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time Classroom Aide to support a multi-age classroom environment, helping to implement engaging, hands-on lessons in literacy, math, science, and social-emotional learning (SEL). The ideal candidate will be collaborative, flexible, and passionate about working with children in a nature-based, project-driven learning community. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with a lead teacher and play a vital role in fostering a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.

      Position Overview

The Classroom Aide will assist the lead teacher in supporting daily instruction, managing classroom activities, and creating an engaging learning environment for students.

      This role involves working in close collaboration with the lead teacher, providing individual and small-group support to students, and helping maintain a positive, organized classroom environment.

      Key Responsibilities:

      Classroom Support

      • Assist the lead teacher in preparing, and implementing lessons in literacy, math, science, and SEL.

      • Provide individual and small-group instruction to students to support differentiated learning.

      • Reinforce classroom routines and expectations to ensure a positive and structured learning environment.

      • Monitor and assist students during activities, transitions, and outdoor exploration.

      Student Engagement & Support

      • Treat each child with dignity and respect, supporting their growth as learners and community members.

      • Help students stay engaged in learning activities and provide additional support to students with learning differences, such as giftedness, dyslexia, ADHD, or autism.

      • Foster social-emotional development by helping students navigate peer relationships and build confidence.

      Collaboration

      • Work closely with the lead teacher to identify and address students’ needs.

      • Assist in coordinating and facilitating outdoor learning experiences, service projects, and fieldwork.

      • Collaborate with other aides, specialty teachers, and volunteers to support classroom and schoolwide activities.

      Classroom & Material Management

      • Help maintain the arrangement, appearance, and cleanliness of the classroom and outdoor learning spaces.

      • Assist in organizing and preparing materials for lessons and activities.

      • Support the implementation of curriculum resources, such as RightStart Math, Lexia, and EL Education.

      Community Engagement

      • Assist in the coordination of parent volunteers and support parent-school relationships.

      • Participate in school events, festivals, and fundraisers as needed.

      Assessment Support

      • Help monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher to guide instruction.

      • Assist in administering assessments as directed by the lead teacher.

      Qualifications

      • Prior experience working with children in an educational setting (preferred).

      • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

      • Ability to create a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

      • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.

      Preferred Skills

      • Experience supporting students with learning differences (e.g., giftedness, dyslexia, ADHD).

      • Familiarity with SEL strategies and nature-based learning.

      Salary & Benefits

      Santa Lucia School offers a competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications. This position is Monday through Thursday, 7 hours per day, at a rate of $27 per hour. This position offers 10% off of school tuition for your own children.
